One of the final set of effects that I had made were the background effects of the game. I was asked to try and re-create that of Monumental Valley and their simple cubed effects. When making these effects, or when making / texturing my models, I was trying to give Bijian a variety of option, to see what he likes and to see what suits with the game.

I started off by making a vary sparse effect pattern, so it didn’t look too overcrowded. I used little red cubes that have random patters and random rotations to make it look a little more natural. This was my favourite out of the three because I really like the slight glow it gives off, and its very slow and calm when floating around. The orange to white effect works really well as it makes each particle stand out from the next.

The next effect that I made was completely different from the other one, it was bigger and had a lot more going on at once. This one is what I didn’t want to happen with the effect as it seems way too crowded and it just seems a little messy. I wanted the cubes to be bigger so they would stand out, but it didn’t work well. I tried to go with a calming blue colour that changed to white, but the blue was a little too light and they all just blend into each other.

The third design was a mixture of the two of them. I decided to shrink the cubes down a lot more and try to get a better spacing between each particle. I didn’t change the colour as I thought it might work a bit better when smaller but unfortunately it didn’t. I was trying to go with an ocean kind of style with the blues and the white, but I don’t think I made the blue strong enough.

However, Bijian had but the fist and third designs together for the game background and they do work quite well with each other. The red stands out from the blue and because its floating above it they don’t really make it seem too crowded.
