An idea that I had when making assets, was to create a sci-fi styled building, that could later be used to make a city. I wanted to give the building large panels of glass, to give it a more futuristic look. I wanted to also outline it with neon lights to make it stand out.
After looking into different styles of sci-fi based buildings I found that they have a lot of rounded points, and they are often very thin and very tall. They are all very unique shapes with big pains of glass in random locations. The bigger the building is the more complex the design would be.
As our game has a simplistic style to it the building didn’t need to be too complicated. So I took the tall, and rounded edge tyle and incorporated that. I started by getting a basic shape using a cube within Maya, and then started to build upon that. As I was going along I was planning our where everything was going to go for the textures. Once I had a good shape I added on some more panels that would be used for decrotic pieces. As mentioned in the last post it good to have two people on models, as you can get loads done at once, or have different variations. This tower is one of the ones that owen had also textured in his on way, which was added into the game.
One other model that I had made was a sort of light pole that would be used for energy or electricty. I just had the idea when making the tower so it was bassed of off anything. I was going to animate the top and make it spin, and then add in an electrical effect at the top. I had added an animation to the model, but it never ended up getting added as it was just forgotten about. It wouldn’t have served any purpse as far as gameplay, it was meant for a decrotive piece, but it can always be added in later in production.
